Downtown LA. Mirrored.

I have been playing a lot with the technique of mirroring. It’s not just for cheesy music videos you know. It turns out – it can be one amazing form of art. Try it on some of your photos.

Here is my latest. It is one of my favorites.

Below is the original (although edited) image before the mirroring.

Digital Art. Bird Reflection.

Here is a digital “painting” I have been working on. Let me know what you think!

Mirrored Bird Landscape

This is the final version. I liked the color effects of the first one but it felt just a little too photoshop’d for me. Below is a more natural version, which I really love. You have to look closely to even realize it is two photos put together and that both of them are mirrored.

California Getaway

Not to long ago I uploaded a few pictures from when my girlfriend and I headed up a few hours North in California. I wanted to upload the rest of the images.

Living in California offers you so many benefits, but just like anywhere else you get busy and lazy all at the same time. Once in awhile force yourself somewhere new for a weekend.

Cayucos, CA has become one of my favorite places. We found it pretty much accidentally. Turns out when your driving along the coast and need to stop for a bathroom break it’s a beautiful bathroom break. After that we were staying in Cambria which was also a small little town. So small that it was hard to find a bar that was open past 8 PM. Much different than what we are used to in LA. We went and saw Herst Castle. It was amazing to be at a house that big and in such an amazing place. Best of all was being able to walk and hang out where some of the most famous people in the world did. Got to see where Charlie Chaplin hung out and played tennis. In one of the pictures you will even notice a landing strip.

These images have quickly become some of my favorites.

A Little Hideaway

Cayucos, California. It might be my new favorite spot. And it was found by accident.

My girlfriend and I took a weekend trip up to Cambria. On the way up is when we found Cayucos. A few minutes and a bathroom break later, we discovered the little town and this pier that has become one of my favorite spots in California. As you can see it is beautiful. But it is secluded, has great little stores, nice people, good food, and a stress free environment.

I have spent the better part of a week editing these pictures. Back and forth. Really wanted these to come out good. I have something I am happy with so I wanted to share. If anyone is interested I could do a blog on the color correction process and variations. It is pretty amazing when you are editing to make a few subtle changes and compare it to you last version. You can really notice the changes actually. Below are the images, enjoy. As always these, along with many other prints, are available for sale (update on all of that coming shortly). Total Experience

The past few months have brought many changes. One of them was sort of a freak accident. While driving to work at the end of August someone, who was parked on the side of the street, opened up their door into my car while I was passing by. The door jammed right into my car on the front right wheel making it no longer drivable. It was towed a body shop.  After a very long process waiting for insurance companies to do their job they ended up calling it a total loss. Yes… from a guy opening his door. Frame damage, struts, wheel, etc, etc. Once it was deemed a total loss it still took 2 weeks to get my car out of the body shop lot because they were charging extensive fees. ANYWAYS… I had time to do a lot of thinking and talking. Everyone that I talked to said that when they totaled their car they used that opportunity to buy the car they had always been wanting… so I did just that.

It’s hard because I was so close to paying off my other car. But if I had to get back into another payment, I wanted it to be something I really wanted. So far, I couldn’t be happier.

First Sale

I made a sale. Finally. The best part is… it is the picture that got me into wanting to sell my photography in the first place. Here is the image below:

Behind the Sign

Not to long ago I hiked up behind the hollywood sing and took a panoramic photo. It was a little difficult because you have to hold the camera up above the fence – and yes, thats what I really did. Luckily it all lined up. This is a 3 part print available [here].

If you live or are ever in the Hollywood area I recommend the hike. It’s great and the payoff is worth it.

New Los Angeles Prints

I have seen the Hollywood many times. I have seen downtown Los Angeles many times. The goal for these photos was to try and capture both in a way that is a little more artistic and different that normal.

What I learned while taking these photos is that every day we pass things that we take for granted. Maybe it’s downtown Los Angeles for me but maybe is the old coffee shop on the corner for you, or a tree in a park you always run by, or even the neighbors dog. These, by no means, are the most amazing pictures ever taken of Los Angeles but what they did for me was help me open my eyes again and see whats around me when most days I just let it fly by.

Here are some more photos. They have been listed for sale on [etsy] and on [www.bluegiraffeimages.com].
